Google My Business is Google’s free business listing service.  Any business with a physical address (not a post office box) can list on it and in terms of time invested, it is probably the best bang for buck digital marketing that most businesses can carry out.  In this article we’ll take a look at seven reasons why your business must be listed on Google My Business.

1.    Leverage Mobile Devices

Your listing will be 100% mobile friendly which is super important given that almost 80% of consumers use a mobile device like a phone or a tablet to research new purchases.  Customers perusing your listing will be able to view images of your products and services, read reviews, send you messages, and even ring you directly from their device.  

2.    You’ll be Easier to Find Locally

Google My Business listings have boosted visibility when potential customers are searching for a related product or service AND they are located geographically close to your business.  For example, if you’ve got a café in Salisbury your listing will be more visible to people searching for a good cup of coffee while they are located in Salisbury or the surrounding suburbs.

3.    Build customer reviews and trust

More than 95% of consumers read online reviews before purchasing a new product or service.  You can leverage this behaviour by using your Google My Business listing to build your customer reviews.  Did you just get an email from a customer who thanked you for some great service?  Send them your Google Business review link.  Has someone in your café complimented you on the quality of your food?  Ask them for a review on Google.

Your Google My Business listing is a great way of describing what your business does and displaying the quality of the products and services that you offer.  This can be done by setting up a comprehensive product and services listing as well as regularly publishing images and status updates that showcase your products.

5.    Provide a human face

Your listing should be used to provide regular updates about what’s going on inside your business, not just about your products or services, but also what’s going on with you and your staff.  Consumers want to build a relationship with businesses they work with and can only do this if you’re willing to present a human face to the outside world.  Your GMB listing is a terrific way of doing this.

6.    Get a free website

Every GMB listing can also have a simple free website.  You can even link to it with your own custom domain name.  The templates available for the free Google websites are very limited as are the styling options, but if you don’t have a business website it’s certainly better than nothing.

7.    Stand out from your competition

Many small businesses in Australian are not using Google My Business well, or are not even listed.  You can give yourself a real competitive edge and make your business stand out if you take the time to setup an effective listing, post to it regularly, and put in place processes to get your customers to leave reviews for your business.
